Justyna Medon

2022 QEST Scholar - Wallpaper Design & Conservation
Cardiff

Justyna is a surface designer specialising in hand-printed textiles and wallpapers, who gained a BA in Surface Design from London College of Communication in 2010. Since then she has been working as freelance print designer and head designer for Addicted to Patterns based in Bristol. She has researched both wallpaper conservation and reproduction for heritage buildings across the UK.

Justyna has a great interest in historical wallpaper design, which informs her own designs as well as reproductions. Her research has led her to paper conservation to enable her to preserve historic wallpapers and prints and become an expert in this area, eventually passing on her skills through teaching. Developing skills in paper conservation, will allow her to learn to repair damaged wallpaper and master reproduction facsimile. QEST funding will support her during her studies at City & Guilds of London Art School.

Following my passion for surface decoration and screen printing I create custom, hand printed wallpapers & textiles. Linear and organic motifs express extraordinary language, filled with mystery and symbolism. I believe that craftsmanship means focusing on process and fine details, constantly evolving as a maker, designer and as a person.
